One of the most influential Trakehner barns in Riata. Click here to read about the Phoenician Trakehner Programme.

Previously known as New Venture Stables, Phoenician Stud is a large breeding barn owned and operated by Elaine. Here, we specialise in breeding quality Warmblood horses with top breeding lines and performances in the show ring. We carefully select our stock to ensure that all horses bred and sold with the "Phoenician" name are of excellent quality, breeding and temperament.

Situated in the beautiful rural areas of Masterton in New Zealand, Phoenician property stretches over the distance of 320+ acres, with 250 acres of it as rolling-green pastures. There are four main barns, with the Thoroughbred racing division area (consisting of a racing stock barn and racetrack) built slightly apart from the main facilities. There is plenty of forestry surrounding the stable as well, making the it seem more isolated and comfortable for horses (as it seems more natural to them than seeing cars drive by).

At Phoenician, our specialised discipline is show jumping. We select and purchase horses with jumping pedigrees and/or with great potential to add to our current stock and improve them. The result of this is that Phoenician is now one of Riata's most successful jumper barns, producing only horses of the best quality and caliber who bring many titles home. However, we still also train horses in other disciplines, such as dressage and eventing. We also have a small string of Thoroughbred racers who race regularly at RTC races.

Despite the reputation and luxurious exterior, if you arrive to Phoenician expecting post-and-rail fencing, an immaculately swept stable complex, and a battalion of grooms and stablehands doing all the dirty work while riders hop over dainty jumps in the arena, you'll be sadly disappointed. A home run stable, Phoenician thrives on the good will and comradeship of our staff, many in which double as both groom and rider to their charges, therefore allowing them to strengthen their working bond. We also pride ourselves in being one of the most "homey" stables around.  While we spare no expense in providing our horses with top quality stabling to ensure all horses are safe, comfortable, content, and happy, we run on a "you get what you earn" rule. Everyone must do their part to keep the stable running, be they man or horse. The aim at Phoenician is not only to provide, but to educate those enthusiastic and passionate to learn "from the ground up".

We offer a friendly and professional training and breeding services to players in Riata. Our horses' happiness are our number one priority, as we believe that a happy horse performs at it's best for it's rider.

update / spotlight

08 April 2008: With time flying by so hastily, everyone at Phoenician barely noticed as March passed us by ever so quickly, landing April as a huge surprise to us all! After an extremely busy March, filled with multiple shows, horses, and RL hecticness, April is definitely a good time to catch up on everything. Also, it's a good time so welcome many many new faces to the Phoenician team - mostly derived from the uber awesome Lochraven stock! To the show division, Phoenician would like to warmly welcome Wait On Azure (gorgeous half-sister to Phoenician Illiara) and the handsome Aramis, both from the 2008 Lochraven foal crop, as well as a lovely little reclaimed Sleipner (REAA) baby, Siesta. To the racing division, a huge welcome to two Dramorian babies, Amalia and Spirit Fire, who will hit the track in '09 and '10 respectively, as well as Destined Honor (Dartanian colt). Finally, a huge welcome and congratulations to Scarlet Element for arriving (reclaimed) and breaking her maiden in her second race, making her the first Aisteru baby to in a race. Whoo!

February's spotlight horse: Arbros (REAA)
Arnie is one of Phoenician's most well known, and almost key symbols of the farm. Brought to Phoenician in late 2005 a little after the Phoenician became a breeding barn and the Trakehner programmed kicked off, the plan for him was initially to be a second breeding stallion. However, that soon worked out very differently from my mind-sketched blueprints when his offspring began proving his worth. Arnie has truly made his mark in the Trakehner breed of Riata. He consistently stamps his progeny with supple engaging movement, good bone and a fabulous temperament, and is now one of the most influential Trakehner stallions in Riata. Aside from that, Arnie is the magnificent fairytale black stallion that every girl dreams of, and with his fabulous temperament and uncomplicated nature, it's not hard to make the connection there!
