It is absolutely amazing to see how quickly a young horse can grow, and how much they change in the process as well! When born, Lenne was a tiny little filly who was a shy and timid little sweetheart. She rarely left her mother’s side, and could always be found hiding behind her mother when someone entered their stall. It was almost as if she was stuck to her mother with permanent glue. For quite a while, she seemed to always be lost at how to co-ordinate her legs, as as so seemed a little clumsy. It was expected that she was to be a late bloomer who would probably fill out with time. We were a little worried about how she would fare when seperated from her mother, and were a touch anxious about her size, worrying if she would be healthy enough as she grew up.
However, Lenne proved to be a fighter. Weaning time was exceptionally painful for her, and she took it very hard, calling and whining for her mother for weeks. She seemed dejected and ate very little during that period, alarming all the staff. However, as the weeks passed, she started running around with the other young horses, learning to run, play, dance with the other youngsters. This pleasurably brought her appetite back with a vengeance, and she started eating like a horse (literally!) again, filling out beautifully and growing with each passing day.
Now, Lenne is still shooting up like a weed. She has lost her young gangliness and timid personality, turning into a beautiful, well-muscled horse with exceptional balance and movement. We had expected her to be quite a small horse, but she seems to be proving us wrong! She is now one of the largest youngster her age and still growing, and posseses the grace of a ballerina and presence of a stallion. Even so, she is still the loving sweetheart who wishes with all her heart to please.
