  • Words just cannot do this incredible stallion justice.

Anyone’s first impression of him is similar – a magnificent fairytale black stallion. Standing a towering 17.1hh tall with a lovely broad chest, good bone, long legs and a streamline, muscular body, Arnie is the epitome of fabulous Trakehner breeding, and is every breeder’s dream production.

Arnie is actually remarkably well-mannered for a stallion. He is the calmest gentleman on the block as he's a level-headed horse with an excellent work attitude. Catching him? No problem. Leading him? What a star. Loading? Let’s get going! Tacking up? Always breaking the speed records. He’s such a perfect sweetheart…until you get on him. Then he starts falling asleep on you. While he may look like impressive in the jumper ring, that’s only because an hour or so had been spent on trying to coax him into wakefulness. Once he gets going, he’s a really amazing ride. The problem is getting him to the point where he’s actually awake enough to be spectacular.

Arnie was brought to Phoenician in late 2005, a little after the Phoenician became a breeding barn and the Trakehner programmed kicked off. He was initially brought in as a second breeding stallion, with the plan to have Maestro as the central sire. However, that soon worked out very differently from my mind-sketched blueprints. When first brought in, he became one of my first horses to dabble in the higher levels of jumping – Level 8. There, he performed magnificently, being a usual in the Level 8 and Open Jumper division champion/reserve. He then moved on to competing in Level 9 classes, and excelled immensely in Mini-Prix classes. However, we never pushed him into Grand Prix due to his age, which is quite a shame.

Arnie is a pretty special boy to me. Even if he’d been a scrawny, skinny little long-legged short-backed midget, I’d still love him the same, because it’s his heart of gold that has stolen my heart. His fabulous temperament and uncomplicated nature are a huge plus, and though he’s a little older than your average competitor, that doesn’t stop him from giving everything 110%. He enjoys going to horseshows, always trying to get into the trailer ASAP, and is very honest, bold and brave over fences. This horse is uncomplicated, fun and a joy to ride as he has a great walk and trot, and super uphill canter. He is the calmest gentleman on the block as he's a level-headed horse, never looking to take advantage of you. Aside from the need to bribe him with a million carrots and to ride him into schooling jumps to wake him up before a show, he’s every girl’s dream boy.

When you think about it, Arnie really is the “father” of Trakehner breeding. To-date, he is one of the most favoured Trakehner stallions in Riata, and anyone who sees either him or his offspring get hooked on them instantly. Arnie has sired many top-notch jumper horses, and seems to have a queer tendency of throwing filly foals. Each has the potential to make it far in the field, and his younger foals are already tearing up the ring in their age groups. His 2006 filly, Miss Illusive, is currently the only youngster to have received a Level 1 rating in both RYHA gradings, and his other offspring are excelling in a diverse range of disciplines over a short period of time. His oldest offspring, Arbros' Romance, recently arrived at Phoenician, where she will be staying for a long time to come. This gorgeous mare exhibits the exact same behavious as er beloved sire, and as an accomplished Show Jumper, there's no question she'll be headed down the same path too! Arnie is a legacy in himself, and I can't wait to see what the future will bring to him and his offspring.

Arbros was awarded the prestigeous REAA title in November 2007, and voted Riata Horse of the Month in June 2009
